In the garden of a Spoleto convent, Pope Innocent III came one day in 1198 and miraculously caused a spring to gush forth, which has since been called the “holy spring.” Free access was decreed for pilgrims who wished to draw from the spring, whose water was believed to be salubrious. In 1601 the deputy governor of the city restored the spring, and to commemorate it he affixed the plaque that is still in situ. In the 19th century a tannery with beautiful architectural lines was built on the site, and it is from the skillful restoration of this place that L’Hotel San Luca was born, rebuilt by the Zuccari family.
In the lobby, comfortable armchairs grouped around an 18th-century fireplace, antique furniture and an important collection of 19th-century soup tureens help make guests feel at home.
In the courtyard, where in fine weather one can have breakfast or an aperitif, towers the fountain topped by a plaque from 1601.
The rooms, spacious, colorful, fully soundproofed, are impeccably clean, full of comforts and the double beds are 2 meters wide; the Carrara marble bathrooms are large, with towel warmers and anti-fog mirrors. There are no draperies or carpeting in the hotel, air conditioning is primary, and the construction complies with all current standards.
